Such a departure from our previous Welcome Home flicks… shooting both the Dublin and Birmingham Workshops gave us time to play, think and play some more… something we haven’t done for a while now.

Next up… Birmingham! We decided to ditch the film cameras and stretch our image-taking fingers instead.

This whole experience really does mean the earth to us… we get to shoot and hang out with so many talented creatives. EVERYONE needs to experience Welcome Home.

We now have two (two!!!!) STUNNING Bolex H16 Cameras in tip-top condition… actually one has one hell of a bio (more about this below). Honestly… these are the most beautiful things we have ever seen.

The first is the early H16 SBM (pictured here) and the other is the slightly later H16 EBM… the difference? One is fully clockwork and the other is battery powered. Just magical.

So the story… the EBM was once owned by an amazing film director. So this baby has shot actual films… like the ones you see at the cinema… it was then passed on to another film director… who used it to shoot some amazing music promos featuring some of the UK’s biggest bands ever. We were actually ‘interviewed’ before the sale to make sure we were the right people to continue its amazing legacy. NUTS!!!

So that’s it! Sixteen launches later this year… expect to see footage online soon. Now… we don’t look that excited above… but we bloody are. Have fun! x

Yaki Soba. Birthday treat at WAYNE MANOR (well, Wollaton Hall in Notts). Learning to speak, read and write Japanese. New Polaroid camera.

Changes…

We got snowed in… yup, for 8 days. It gave us time to refuel, scoff humongous amounts of Yaki Soba, guzzle Hazlenut Milk and give Stephen some long-overdue cuddles… but most of all it gave us time to talk about our little business.

Discussing our dreams was a giddy-head-trip… but we’re so glad we did. Looking back we’ve had an unbelievable 3 years… packed with highs and lows. However, two things smacked us in the face – how much we doubt our decisions and the pressure to conform. We’re not the only ones that struggle with these… right?

Just 8 snowy days at home have made us realise our doubts and pressures are actually what stokes the creative fire in our tummies. So we’ve decided to step out of our comfort zone and throw things up in the air once more… hopefully shaping Shutterbox in to what we’ve always dreamed it would be. Here goes…

16mm Filmmaking…

This year will see us shooting 16mm wedding films… Minds. Blown. 16mm has ALWAYS been our favourite film format and we just know you’re going to love it too. To us, it’s the ultimate film experience… Cinematic in looks yet a home-movie at heart. So that’s HD, Super 8mm and 16mm all under one roof. Well…kind of…

Making room…

Later this year there will be a website ‘spring clean’ and a little re-design. The site will be split in to 3 dedicated areas – HD, Super 8mm and 16mm. This will give each film format the roomy, online space it deserves.

A dream come true…

And finally… all of the above will sit under a ‘Studio’ style brand and environment. Yup, we will be a Studio. A dream come true for both of us. To say we’re excited is an understatement. More information on all of this very soon.

Oh, there is one last thing… this little fella’

This is in no way wedding or film related but if you’re a cat lover… you’re going to love this. Stephen already has a Blog and he’s quite the little heart-breaker online… at the moment it’s just a Tumblr… later this year it will be a whole different thing.

We Need to Talk About Stephen  |  Cat Emporium

Yup, we are launching the worlds first (we think?) online Cat Emporium… We’ve teamed up with a small collective of amazingly cool artists and illustrators who are busy creating limited edition cat-based designs for a WORLD of exciting products. Think hand-printed apparel, art prints, paper goods, stationery, greetings cards… all with an alternative spin. I cannot tell you how excited we are about this… More news soon but for now our lips are sealed.

So that’s it. 2013 here we come.

We honestly couldn’t do this without you all. Thank you so, so much for the constant love and support. We’d also love to hear about your year ahead and how you handle those creative demons…

Honestly… a dream wedding for us. All of our heroes in one room… Totoro, Mega-Man, Pac-Man, Mario… Hannah and Iwan even ditched their first dance in favour of duetting ‘Anyone Else But You’ by The Moldy Peaches. Just genius.

Hannah is also an amazing wedding photographer – we began shooting weddings around the same time and INSTANTLY fell in love with Hannah’s stunning images.

It’s a total blessing we get to call you both friends. x
